UTSA offers options for employees to celebrate the Battle of Flowers

San Antonio is scheduled to celebrate the Battle of Flowers on Friday, April 27, 2018.  Although this day is not considered an official holiday, which can only be designated by the Texas Legislature, UTSA offices are encouraged to adjust work schedules where possible to allow employees who would like to attend the celebration, to do so.  All UTSA offices will, however, remain open.

Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that the University maintains adequate staffing to conduct business during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).  In order to assist employees who wish to attend the festivities, the following options are available:

  1. Employees may be approved to work a flexible work schedule during the week of April 23rd (for example, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to noon), or
  1. Employees may be approved to use their available leave time (annual leave, floating holiday time or compensatory time) for the afternoon of Friday, April 27, 2018.

In order to coordinate adequate office coverage and work schedules in a timely manner, all employees should submit their requests to their supervisors in advance.  Requests for a flexible work schedule will require approval from appropriate Vice President or designee in accordance to HOP 4.29Hours of Work for Staff Employees, section IX (Procedures), section B (Flexible Work Schedules).

Requests for time off using available leave time will require advance approval from the employee’s immediate supervisor in accordance with their respective department’s procedures for requesting time off.
