New Leave Entitlements for
Blood, Organ or Bone Marrow Donors

New legislation (HB 89) entitles employees to take the time necessary to serve as an organ, bone marrow or blood donor, without incurring a deduction in salary or requiring the use of chargeable leave. These changes were effective September 1, 2003. (click here for more information)

There are limitations to the amount of time off that may be granted. For bone marrow donations, the limit is five (5) working days per fiscal year. For organ donor donations, the limit is thirty (30) working days per fiscal year. For blood donations, an employee may receive sufficient time off to donate blood no more than four (4) times per fiscal year.
