Summary

 

·  Function:   To provide hardware/software support and the technical skills required for the installation, operation and optimization of digital network communication equipment.

 

·  Scope:      Responsible for installing and maintaining network communication equipment and software necessary for terminals, workstations, personal computers, and mainframe computers to effectively communicate over a computer network.

 

Duties

 

·  Typical:

1.      Serves as group lead, providing training and leadership to network support technicians concerning network/software functions.  Provides guidance and supervision in absence of manager.

2.      Provides technical support and knowledge of a network to include analyzing and monitoring the design and structure of the connections/configuration, managing performance of software packages, and administering network and exchange accounts.

3.      Provides training and support of software packages to staff, faculty and management.

4.      Consults with vendors, faculty, staff and management concerning projected enhancement to hardware/software and network capabilities.

5.      Oversees and performs the physical set up of a network, assuring integrity of communication/connections; provides basic to moderate programming skills; and provides on call emergency support on a rotating basis.

6.      Works with management to develop reports and procedures to optimize the benefits of network capabilities.

7.      Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Education

 

Required

Associate’s degree in computer science or equivalent with emphasis on computer/management information systems.

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent with an emphasis on computer/management information systems.
