Although latitude is permitted
for paying student employees within the established salary range, the
upper end of the range should be reserved for employees with upper level
education and more extensive experience. Additional details and
procedures regarding the utilization of the above student titles are
in the Handbook of Operating Procedures. Any salary greater than
25% above the base rate must be approved by the Compensation Office
prior to communicating with the student.
* Employing department must
validate that the student meets the following minimum enrollment requirements:
graduate students: 6 hours in long session or 3 hours in summer, and
undergraduates: 9 hours in long session or 6 hours in summer.
^ Teaching Assistant I and
II and annual salaries are based on a 9 month appointment.
** Must receive UTSA course credit for the work completed.
*** This title is reserved for students who fall into one of the categories
below:
- Work study whose funds have expired and the need to work continues
- Work study/student during the spring who is registered for school in the fall and who desires to work in the summer
- Students who do not qualify for work study program.
**** The
title Non-Affiliated Student Worker does not have a maximum number of
hours assigned, but if anyone appointed or working for 20 hours a week
for 4.5 months will be entitled to benefits.
Students employed in student
titles may work 19 hours per week while enrolled in classes. However,
during Christmas Break, Spring Break, and Summer Break students may
work a maximum of 40 hours even if not enrolled in classes.
