IT MISSION

Our mission is to provide innovation, leadership and effective management of the university's information technology resources. We strive to ensure availability and reliability of the technology-based information management infrastructure and of the tools that support the university's mission of teaching, research and public service.

Who we are, what we do...

Administrative Computing -- JoAnn Hatch, Interim Director

  • Provide analytical and programming support.
  • Help determine the technological needs of the UTSA administration.
  • Maintain and develop the student information system to meet the needs of the university. (Banner from SCT.)
  • Maintain the Automated Student Access System (ASAP).
  • Generate reports as needed by staff or faculty or as mandated by governmental agencies.
  • Consult on web page design and development.
  • Consult with departments with the purchase and use of software.

Customer Relations & Communication -- Carolyn Ellis, Assistant Director

  • Maintains OIT Web site
  • Creates OIT Electronic Newsletter
  • Composes Technical Documents, Manuals, Bulletins, Brochures, Special Reports
  • Prepares Informational Material for Release to UTSA Media

Customer Service and Help Desk -- Glenda Norton, Director

  • Logs and tracks all Help Desk calls
  • Responds to all faculty/staff computer service calls
  • Administers campus PC rollout (desktop replacement) program

Distance Learning and Academic Technology -- Bill Angrove, Asst Vice Provost

  • Manages WebCT and Assists with Instructional Design
  • Provides Video Streaming
  • Provides Interactive TV Services
  • Provides Videoconferencing Facilities and Videoconferencing Support
  • Produces Videos and Other Media for UTSA
  • Provides Audio Visual Support
  • Supports ParScore
  • Manages Classroom Reservations

Enterprise Systems -- Bryan P. Wilson, Director

  • Network Services
  • Windows Services
  • UNIX Administration

Information Security -- Annette Evans, Information Security Officer

  • UTSA's Information Security Officer (ISO)-- Annette Evans
  • Provides Regular Security Assessments
  • Develops Security Awareness Program
  • Supervises Activities of UTSA's Incident Response Team
  • Develops/Maintains UTSA's Information Security Standards and Policies
  • Develops/Coordinates all State IT Reporting
  • Scans Network for Vulnerabilities
  • Conducts Information Security Investigations
  • Administers Free Security Monitoring Program for All UTSA Offices
  • Manages LDAP Profiles
  • Manages Banner Accounts
  • Develops Strategic Planning and Biannual Operating Plans
  • Administers Disaster Recovery Planning and Testing
  • Creates Audit Reports
  • Conducts Vulnerability Assessments

Student Computing Services -- Galen Raether, Director

  • Manages All Student Computing Labs
  • Creates Laboratory Access Accounts
  • Provides Adapative Technology Support
  • Hosts Student Laptop Initiative PC Maintenance Shop
  • Manages UTSA PrintSmart Program

Telecomunication Services -- Rigo Garcia, Asst Dir Info Technology

  • Audix (voice mail) for faculty or staff
  • Disconnection of a telephone extension
  • New telephone numbers and labels
  • Change name of user associated with a given extension or Audix mailbox
