1. Arrival at San Antonio International Airport

Upon arrival at the San Antonio International Airport you will need to find transportation to the university campus.

There are several selections:

planeA.) Bus from airport – The bus company in San Antonio is VIA. For more information, call (210)362-2020 or visitVIA Website, www.viainfo.net.Pamphlets are available with maps and fares for each route. Exact change is necessary to pay the fares.Special student discount fares range from $.20-.50, one way, depending on distance and whether a regular or express (fewer stops) bus is taken.Monthly passes may be bought.Bus schedules are available in the University Center Information Desk

To get to UTSA from the airport you can take:

 1.) Bus #5 to Navarro & Villita (downtown) and transfer to #94 to UTSA or
 2.) Bus #5 to North Star Mall and transfer to #551 to Crossroads Park and Ride and transfer to #94 to UTSA. The fare from the airport to UTSA is approximately $1.75.
  When you board the bus, please tell the bus driver you will need to make a transfer.

B.) Shuttle Service  – SATRANS Airport Express is located at both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. The shuttle bus pickup area will be outside baggage claim. Shuttle tickets are sold curbside and you do not need a reservation to go from the airport to UTSA or another destination. Shuttle buses run between 7:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. CST and the fare to UTSA 1604 campus is $25 per person. For more information visit their website at www.saairportshuttle.com or call (210) 281-9900. A tip for the driver, usually $1-$2, is always appreciated.

C.) Taxi – The fare from the airport to UTSA is approximately $36-$40, depending on the route the driver takes. If you are interested in taking a taxi, you are encouraged to contact the taxi service to get a rate quote. It is customary to tip the driver 15% of the total fare, plus $1 per bag upon arriving at your destination. Please contact 1-800-Taxi Cab (1-800-829-4222) for taxi services in San Antonio. D.) Rent a Car – There are nine car rental agencies at the airport available to assist you.A driver’s license (international driver’s license), credit card, and passport are required. Car rental booths are located near baggage claim.

2. Currency Exchange

  • You will not find a currency exchange at the airport. You must go to local banks to change money, however not all banks will change money for you.

        • Bank of America: For account holders only.
      • Chase Bank: For account holders only.
      • Citibank: For account holders only.
      • IBC: Will only exchange the following currencies: Mexican Pesos and Euros. Other currencies they will not buy.

3. Pay Phones and Making Calls

      • There are pay phones (public phones) in various locations in the airport.
      • The cost to use payphones is generally around $0.50, so make sure you have coins!
      • To call: insert money, listen for a dial tone and then dial the local seven digit number. Local calls begin with 210. If the number you are trying to call does not begin with 210, you will need to dial 1 + the area code and then the local seven digit number.  The operator will then inform you how much additional money you will need to insert to make the call. Should you need assistance with any call, dial 0 for the operator. To find a local phone number, first check the telephone directory.If one is not available, you can dial 1-411 and receive directory assistance. To find a long distance phone number, dial 1+area code+555-1212.

    Bus from Airport:

  • Take bus #5 at the Airport; get off at McCullough & Ashby. Walk to the corner bus stop & get on bus #20
  • Take bus #20 (bus stop number 39843) to Carson & Palmetto. Get off the bus and walk left on Palmetto to Grayson St.Go to the right one block on Grayson St to PIERCE Ave.
