International Student and Scholar Services, a section of the Office of International Programs, is here to provide you advice and assistance with your immigration needs and responsibilities.  The international student and scholar advisors are available on a walk-in basis, five days a week (9:00-4:00) to answer your questions and help you.

Documents for Travel
Information on the documentation you should take with you when you travel outside and within the United States.

Automatic Revalidation
If you are traveling to Mexico, Canada, or a Caribbean island and will be gone for 30 days or less, you may be able to use "Automatic Extension of Visa Validity" to re-enter the U.S., even if you do not have a current visa or your visa status has been changed since you were issued your last visa.

USCIS Instructions for I-765 Form
It is very important that you download the correct I-765 form for your type of OPT application. For each OPT application eligibility code in #16 of this form is different and critical. Incorrect eligibility code will result in delay of your OPT application.

CAP-GAP Provisions

OPTIONAL PRACTICAL TRAINING (OPT) UPDATE FORM

You may apply to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services for employment in your field of study before or following completion of your degree requirements. If you receive this permission, you will have a maximum of 12 months (and additional 17-months, if applicable) to work. You must apply according to the procedures for your OPT application type. CURRICULAR PRACTICAL TRAINING (CPT) APPLICATION

CPT allows employment that is an "integral part" of your course of study. This work experience must be required by your degree program, or may be an elective if it is an important part of the program of study. To apply you must have completed a full-time course load in F-1 status in the previous 9 months. (Graduate students may seek curricular training opportunities in their first term). See an international student advisor to apply for CPT.

CONFIRMATION OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES FORM

The Confirmation of Financial Resources is a form provided to The University of Texas at San Antonio to prove you have the amount required to pay your expenses while in college. This form must be submitted before you can receive an I-20 or DS 2019 Certificate of Eligibility, required for application for an F-1 or J-1 visa.

CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT (Transient Enrollment) Form

The Concurrent Enrollment Form must be completed by students taking courses for credit at schools other than UTSA.  It provides information to the Office of International Programs about dual enrollment so OIP can report to SEVIS that students are maintaining full-time status as required by their immigration status.  When the semester is complete, students must bring the final transcripts from their other institutions to OIP.

The Change of Status application is for students who want to change to another non-immigrant status. To submit this application, see an international student advisor.

REINSTATEMENT APPLICATION

The Reinstatement application is for students who have become out of status with Immigration. To submit this application, see an international student advisor.

ECONOMIC HARDSHIP APPLICATION

The Economic Hardship application is a request for off-campus employment due to severe economic problems beyond your control. To submit this application, see an international student advisor.

AUTHORIZATION REQUEST FORM

The Authorization Request Form is for students who authorize somebody to pick-up or mail document(s). Students required to have valid personal email address (i.e., UTSA Lonestar email account). All required information must be fill out and submit by clicking Submit by Email box located in the top right corner of the form.

SEVIS TRANSFER FORM

The Immigration Transfer Form is for students who are transferring from one institution in the United States to another institution in the United States. This form is REQUIRED for all international transfer students before an I-20 can be issued. Please fill in this form and send to UTSA Office of International Programs.

EXTENSION OF STAY FOR F-1/J-1 VISA HOLDERS

An extension of stay is required for F-1/J-1 visa students who do not complete their degree program by the completion date specified on the Form I-20/DS-2019. Students may apply for an extension as early as 60 days before but not later than the completion date on the Form I-20/DS-2019.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS (F-1/J-1)

The Change of Address form is for F-1/J-1 visa students who are moving to a new address. You must complete this form within 10 days of your move. Bring it to the Office of International Programs so an advisor can make copies for your file and update your address with Immigration system SEVIS. All other visa students must complete AR-11 form at: www.uscis.gov and mail to the USCIS office. For university mailing purpose every student must also update their address on ASAP.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS *Special Registration*

The Change of Address form AR-11SR is for NSEERS Students. After completing the AR-11SR form, bring it to the Office of International Programs so an advisor can make copies for your file and update your address with Immigration.  

VERIFICATION of ENROLLMENT

Verification of Enrollment is available online after census date each term. If a student is requesting Verification of Enrollment prior to census date a request must be made in person at the Enrollment Services Center.
