Employment Based on Unforeseen, Severe
ECONOMIC HARDSHIP
Who is eligible for Economic Hardship?
1. Students who have looked for but have
not found employment opportunities on-campus, and who are experiencing severe
economic hardship.
2. Students who have been in F-1 status for one academic year.
3. Students who have completed a full course of study each semester.
4. Acceptance of employment will not interfere with a full course of
study.
Application for Work Permission
Put the following packet together and provide it to the Office of International Programs:
1. Form I-765 (downloadable at
http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-765.htm)
2. A copy of Form I-94 Departure Record (front and back)
3. A copy of your last EAD (front and back)
4. Two photographs (see specifications at
http://uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffairs/newsrels/04_08_02Photo_flyer.pdf)
5. $175 fee, if applicable
6. An itemized list of your current bills and expenses.
7. A copy of your current bank statement.
8. Proof that on-campus jobs are not available (you can do this by
creating a list of five on-campus offices you visited
where employment was not available)
The Office of International Programs will submit your application to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
