for International Students

 

Financial Aid Grants

 

UTSA International Student Grant (formerly known as Texas Public Education Grant, TPEG)
 

    The UTSA International Student Grant is a need-based award given to both undergraduate and graduate international students based on need and availability of funds. The maximum award is $2,000 per semester.  Applicants must:
    1.  Demonstrate financial need.
    2.  Maintain full-time enrollment.
    3.  Maintain good academic standing (not be on probation or suspension).  For graduate students, this means a 3.0 GPA; for undergraduates, it varies.
    4.  Be in valid F-1 or J-1 status.
   
Applications  for the Fall Semester of each year are accepted beginning March 1.  Funds will be distributed for the following semesters if they remain available. 

Application forms are available at the Office of Financial Aid or at the Enrollment Services Desk in the first floor of the JPL.

 

Good Neighbor Scholarship

    The Good Neighbor Scholarship provides an exemption of tuition for students from the nations of the western hemisphere (except Cuba and the U.S.).  Applicants must:
    1.  Be in valid F-1 or J-1 status.
    2.  Intend to return to their home country
    3.  Maintain satisfactory academic progress.
    4.  Take a minimum of 12 hours (undergraduates) each semester, or 9 hours (graduate students).

    In 2003-04, 235 awards were made throughout the state of Texas.

    Application must be made by the middle of February for the following year.  Application forms are available at the Office of Financial Aid or at the Enrollment Services Desk in the first floor of the JPL.


 

Scholarships
 

P.E.O. International Peace Scholarship

     A $6,000 scholarship is available from the P.E.O. (Philosophical Educational Organization for Women) to qualified female graduate students who intend to return to their home countries upon completion of their studies.  Interested students should request eligibility information between July 1 and December 1; deadline for returning the eligibility information is December 15.
    In 2004-05, 200 scholarships were awarded, for a total amount of $1,080,500, to recipients from 77 countries.

Florence Terry Griswold Scholarship I
 

    PARTT chapters sponsor various awards for women from the western hemisphere who are attending public colleges and universities in Texas.  Applicants must intend to return to their home country upon completion of studies.
    Application deadlines are usually January 31 for the following year.

 

Texas Federation of Women's Clubs Scholarships

    Several different scholarships are available through TFWC. Both males and females are eligible. In determining the recipients, financial need, scholastic ability, leadership qualities, volunteer activities, and the student's potential and future goals are considered.

 

Loans

Organization of American States

    The Education Loan Program of the Organization of the American States (OAS) grant interest-free loans to competent persons from Latin American and Caribbean countries to help them finance their higher education studies in accredited universities in the United States.
