Rules for Social Security Card Issuance
Documentation Required
Effective October 13, 2004, all F-1/J-1 visa students seeking
Social Security numbers for on-campus work are required to provide
documentation that they have (or have been offered) an on-campus job.
The following evidence must be provided to the Social Security office
when seeking issuance of a SS card:
1. A letter from the hiring department, giving required
details about the job, signed by a person who has hiring authority in that
department. This form should be printed on UTSA departmental letterhead.

2. A letter from the Office International Programs (OIP),
verifying good immigration status and full-time enrollment in classes for the
current semester. This
letter can only be issued when letter #1 is brought to an international student
advisor in International Programs. Come to the International Programs
Office between 9:00 and 4:00, Monday through Friday, to request this letter.
An original and one photocopy of each of
the documents below:
3. Identification page of your passport
4. I-94 card
5. I-20 or DS-2019 form
6. A completed Social Security application form. This can be filled
out at the SS office, or can be downloaded and completed in advance. The
form is located at

Office, located either Downtown at 727 E. Durango, Room 701, San Antonio, TX 78206, or 8020 Alamo Downs Parkway, San Antonio 78238. The hours
