International Programs
Special Registration Students

Students coming from countries that are on the "Special Registration" list must register their departure before leaving the U.S.  To do that, you must appear in person before an inspecting officer at a designated port of departure, and leave from that port the same day.  You are probably subject to this requirement if:
  1. You went through the "Special Registration" process in 2003, making a required trip to a district office of Immigration.
  2. The back of your I-94 contains an "FIN" number.
  3. You are a citizen of Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Egypt, Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syrian Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, or Yemen.
Information on procedures for departure can be found on the International Programs web site, at http://www.utsa.edu/intprograms/WalkawayMaterial.pdf.  Failure to comply with these regulations will probably result in a refusal to re-admit you to the U.S. the next time you leave the country.

In addition to special requirements for departure, the Immigration has the right to call you in to the district office at any time, with just 10 days' notice.  They will notify you using the last address reported in SEVIS.  It is extremely important that you complete an AR-11 form at International Programs if you move, so we can update SEVIS with your new local address.  You cannot claim you did not receive the notice to appear before Immigration because you moved and failed to notify us to make the change in SEVIS for you.

Detailed information is available on this subject in the WalkawayMaterial PDF file.
