Hispanic Mother Daughter Program
This program provides academic enhancement, college information, and family support for
program participants to support and encourage the
successful participation of Hispanic women in higher education by targeting
middle and high school female students and their mothers. The objectives
of this program are
to provide leadership training, academic support and career exploration
so as to maximize the students' potential for success in college, promote
positive communication skills, and empower the participants with decision-making
skills. The Hispanic Mother Daughter Program is a collaborative effort
between selected middle schools and high schools in San Antonio, Dallas
and the Rio Grande Valley Area and El Paso and four University of Texas
System academic components: UTSA, UT-Dallas, UT-El Paso and UT-Pan American.
The program was awarded a grant from the San Antonio Area Foundation,
specifically from the Zander Fund, for the 1998-1999 school year a retreat
