International Collaborations

‘‘

The LRSG has been actively engaging in international collaboration and research, especially with those in China.

‘‘

1. 2006-2008, collaborative project, entitled "MODIS and AMSR-E based monitoring and early warning system on snow-caused disasters for the pastoral agriculture area in Northern Xinjiang Province, China", led by Dr. Tiangang Liang  (CV in English) at Lanzhou University, and funded by the Chinese NSF (No.30571316, period 1/1/2006 - 12/31/2008, total ¥250,000 RMB). In this project, Dr. Xie is leading an effort on "remote sensing snow monitoring".  Utilizing NASA's MODIS snow cover and reflectivity products and in-situ  measurement of snowpack as well as the AMSR-E snow depth and brightness temperature products, Dr. Xie will develop algorithms to retrieve time series snow cover and snow depths in a 8-day time interval and 500 meter spatial resolution from year 2000 to present. The project will fully support Dr. Xie's visits to Lanzhou University during summer time for performing field work, giving seminar and/or workshop, and helping advise graduate students funded by the project.

2. 2007-2010, collaborative project, entitled "A digital system for grass and animal management and decision support, in the pastoral agricultural area, Southern Gansu", led by Dr. Tiangang Liang at Lanzhou University, is funded by the Chinese High-Tech 863 Program (period 9/1/2007-8/31/2010, total ¥500,000 RMB). Dr. Xie is the USA collaborator of the project.

3. 2008-2010, collaborative project, entitled "Mars Express/OMEGA surface spectra retrieving methods and mineral detection", led by Dr. Minqiang Zhu (a former visiting professor of LRSG) at East China Institute of Technology, and funded by the Chinese NSF (#40772200, period 1/1/2008-12/31/2010, total ¥380,000 RMB). Dr. Xie and Dr. Guan (a former postdoc of LRSG and now a professor in Flinders University, Australia) are collaborators of the project.

4. 2009-2012, collaborative project, entitled "Remote sensing monitoring and early warning system on snow-caused disasters for the pastoral agriculture area in Tibetan Plateau, China, led by Dr. Tiangang Liang at Lanzhou University, is funded by the Chinese Department of Education and Lanzhou University (#708089, period 1/1/2009-12/31/2012, total ¥800,000 RMB). Dr. Xie is the USA collaborator of the project.
