UTSA Identity Manager (IDM)

Background

In order to support the change to new network IDs, UTSA has purchased a product by Sun Microsystems to replace the P-synch password management system.

End users and administrators (OIT Support Services (Help Desk) and Student Computing Services) will be able to change or reset passwords through IdM.

Logging In to IDM

Identity Manager is available at: https://idm.utsa.edu

Use your myUTSA ID and password to log in to the system.

Passwords

  • Users will be prompted to change their password every 180 days

  • Users will be locked out after 5 unsuccessful logon attempts

  • Users can only reset their own password ONE time per day (then must call HD for assistance)

  • After a password has been reset, the user is required to change the password at next logon

  • Users will receive an e-mail message whenever their password is changed or reset

  • Users cannot reuse their last three passwords

New password requirements

The new password must consist of:

  • A minimum length of 8 characters

And three out of the four following:

  • At least one numeric character

  • At least one uppercase alphabetic character

  • At least one lowercase alphabetic character

  • At least one special character, but only from the following list: ! (exclamation mark)
    % (percent sign)
    * (asterisk)
    + (plus sign)
    - (dash)
    / (forward slash)
    : (colon)
    ? (question mark)
    _ (underscore)

Personal Questions

Users should have previously answered their three security questions to allow for online resets of their password.

Existing personal questions/answers from P-sync were brought in to IdM.

Users must answer 2 of 3 questions correctly in order to reset or change their own password.
