General Policy Statement

The UTSA Student Computing Services (SCS) Labs are available to all UTSA students on a first-come, first-served basis. Students must be able to provide proof of current UTSA enrollment (see any UTSA Bulletin/Catalog for mandatory ID information), and may be asked to show their UTSACard. To ensure that all students have equal access to the equipment, any PC, or MAC that is left unattended for 10 minutes will be reset. Any books, notebooks, or other materials will be collected and placed in the Lost and Found Box at the SCS service desk. If a storage media device is in the computer, a reasonable attempt will be made to save any work left open and the storage media device will be stored at the SCS service desk. If no storage media device is at the computer, the work will not be saved. Users may occupy only one computer or terminal at a time. Please be considerate of others and return the machine to the login welcome screen so the computer is ready for the next user. Do not make any changes to configurations, such as screen colors, sizes, or positions. The installation of any software application by student users is prohibited.

To protect the hardware and minimize future costs, NO food is allowed in theStudent Computing Services labs. Drinks in spill proof/resistant containers are permitted. Please reference the JPL Library web site for the JPL Information Commons policies for Food and Drink. Be courteous to others working in the facility and try not to disturb them by working loudly when in groups. Keep personal stereos with headphones turned down low.

Etiquette & Policies

  1. Identification is required to ensure only authorized use of your facility.
  2. Cellular phones should be turned down as low as possible. Use them only in the designated phone area or outside of the lab.
  3. When seeking assistance from Lab Staff, treat them with the same dignity and respect you wish to be treated. They will in turn give you service with a smile. They are here to assist you, and will do so to the best of their ability.
  4. Someone else will use the system after you; please leave the PC and workspace the way you would like to find it. Customizing the computer system and desktop is not authorized.
  5. When completing your work please close the program(s) you are using.
  6. If you encounter a problem with the computer, report it to the Lab Staff immediately!
  7. Please return the chair under the table when you leave, and do remember your personal items when leaving your work area.
  8. Observe the food/drink policies. Food bits damage the computers, especially monitors, keyboards, and mice. Spilled liquids can destroy electronic equipment while posing an increased hazard from electrical shock. Please follow the policies of each facility.
