Manage Attachments in Microsoft Outlook

Follow these steps to manage attachments in Outlook:

Which E-mails Have Attachments?

E-mail messages with a paperclip symbol next to the Subject have one or more attachments.

Sort E-mails that Have Attachments

Outlook 2007

Click the Arranged By row under the Inbox header and select Attachments.

Outlook 2003

Click the paperclip symbol next to the From field.


Save Attachments

  1. Double-click the e-mail to open it.
  2. From the Outlook menu, select File>Save Attachments.
  3. Choose a desired location to save the file and click Save.

Remove Attachments

Removing attachments can dependo n how the attachment displays in your e-mail.

If the attachment is a graphic or image:

  1. Select the graphic within the e-mail by clicking on it once. You will see black dots around the graphic.
  2. Click the Delete key. This will remove the graphic from the e-mail.
  3. When you close the e-mail, Outlook will ask if you wish to save the changes. Click Yes.

If the attachment shows up under the subject line of the e-mail:

  1. Right-click the attachment and select Remove.
