What is Voicemail?
Voicemail allows a single user to receive their voice messages.
Voicemail Password Rules:
- It cannot be your extension number
- It cannot have digits in consecutive order (i.e. 567)
- It cannot have duplicated digits (i.e. 588)
- The password must be between 3 and 8 digits.
To check messages from any other phone on campus or an off-campus phone:
- Dial 458-4977
- Press the * (star) key.
- The system will ask for your ID (extension number) and your password.
What isĀ Call Handler service and how do I order it?
Call Handlers (previously called Auto Attendants) allow you to direct callers to specific personnel. This feature is for use at the departmental level.
Your recording might say, "For John, press 1, for Sally, press 2..." You can have up to 9 re-direction possibilities.
The UTSA Bookstore (ext. 4220) has one level of programming, while Human Resources (ext. 4250) has multiple levels of programming.
To order Call Handler service, the department/unit head or administrative associate should send an e-mail to telephone.services@utsa.edu with the following information:
Name of department/college
Department account number
Extension number
What is Long Distance Service?
Long distance service allows the user to make calls outside of the local calling area.
There are two ways to access long distance service on a phone extension:

Unrestricted long distance: Users dial 9 and the long distance number to get an off-campus line. For more information, check out the Estimated Cost.

Long distance Authorization Code: Users have access to long distance by adding this 13-digit code to the phone number they are dialing.

What is DSL service and how do I order it?
A Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is technology that provides digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network.
DSL uses high frequency, while regular telephone uses low frequency on the same telephone line.
A Telephone Services Work Request Form (DOC) is required to request DSL service or to request an estimate.
- The form must include the appropriate account number of the department to be charged for the services requested.
- The administrative head of the office, college or division (or the designated person of authority) must sign the Telephone Services Work Request (DOC) form.
- Faxed copies are not accepted.
- The Office of Sponsored Programs must approve all Telephone Services Work Request forms using grant "26" funds.

What is ISDN Line service and how do I order it?
ISDN stands for Integrated Services Digital Network or Isolated Subscriber Digital Network is a telephone system network.
The key feature of the ISDN is that it integrates speech and data on the same lines, adding features that were not available in the classic telephone system. There are several kinds of access interfaces to the ISDN defined: Basic Rate Interface (BRI), Primary Rate Interface (PRI) and Broadband-ISDN (B-ISDN). ~from Wikipedia
