Fall Orientation

 

In the excitement of starting college at UTSA, many students have questions about academics, student services, housing, financial aid, and student activities. The Roadrunner Roundup program will answer many of these questions and prepare you for your first semester at UTSA.

Orientation & Family Programs offers new student orientation programs for spring, summer and fall semesters. Each term provides a unique Roundup experience for new students and their family members.   Before you can learn more about your Roadrunner Roundup Program, identify your admission classification.

Freshman/Freshman Transfer:  students with 0-29 credit hours
Transfer:  students with 30 or more credit hours
Graduate:  visit Graduate Programs
International:  visit International Programs

 

Freshmen Roadrunner Roundup is a three-day program designed to meet the needs of all incoming freshman and freshman transfer students and introduce them to the UTSA community.  Each orientation program begins on a Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and ends on a Thursdays at 5:30 p.m, participants should not plan to depart campus prior to this end time.   All freshman and freshman transfer students are required to attend every program session during Roadrunner Roundup in order to register for classes. 

For those Roadrunners that require orientation housing during their Roadrunner Roundup program, we’ve created the “Live like a Roadrunner” (LLR) housing option.  LLR includes:  three days and two nights of orientation housing at Chaparral Village, two dinner meals at the Roadrunner Café, academic sessions that prepare you for advising/course selection and social programming at the University Center, Chaparral Village an/or at the Recreation Center.  There is an additional charge for the LLR (housing option) and it is added to your orientation fee of $150. All orientation fees and charges are totaled are added to your Tuition and Fees bill. NOTE: LLR is filled on a first come, first serve basis, so register.

What to expect:
Tuesdays
Students begin their Roundup experience with orientation check-in.  After check-in and the opening session, participants will spend the day with Orientation Leaders and fellow new students, becoming familiar with UTSA’s campus, academic resources, and student life. Students will also have the option of taking course placement exams during the scheduled testing time.  Contact Testing Services at (210) 458-4125, to determine whether or not you need to take a placement exam. For students that are not staying in orientation housing your day will end at 6 p.m. 

Wednesdays
It’s another action packed day as Roadrunner Roundup participants will meet up with their Orientation Leader to attend sessions facilitated by key university faculty, staff, and administrators.  Students will learn about specific academic requirements, policies and resources at UTSA.  For students that are not staying in orientation housing your day ends at 6 p.m. 

Thursdays
Academic advising and course registration are the focus today along with taking care of any business on campus.  “Live like a Roadrunner” students must check out of Chaparral Village by 6 p.m.

Transfer Students

Orientation & Family Programs offers new Transfer Student Orientation programs for spring, summer and fall semesters.  Transfer students may opt to participate in an on-campus or an online orientation experience.  Transfer Roundup for students with 30 or more college credit hours is optional, but attendance is strongly encouraged.

On-campus Transfer Orientation
Held at the Main Campus, new students will be introduced to academic policies and student services unique to UTSA.  Receive a tour of the campus, meet with faculty and staff and take care of university business all in one day!  All participants will receive an individual appointment with an academic advisor, to prepare them for course registration.   

Online Transfer Orientation
Transfer students can complete an online orientation experience at their own pace and convenience.  The online orientation is filled with valuable information about UTSA services, resources, academic policies and much more!  Please note: online orientation does not include a meeting with your academic advisor or assistance with course registration.
