Rowdy Ties is an orientation program for family members of new incoming UTSA students.  Parents, family members, and guests are encouraged to attend Roadrunner Roundup with their student, as a Rowdy Ties participant. This gives family members an introduction to UTSA by focusing on academic and student life components which we believe are critical to success.

2009 Spring Rowdy Ties Orientation
This one day orientation program occurs during December and January, for family members whose students are starting at UTSA during the spring semester.  Family members and guests will accompany their student during most parts of their orientation program.  Participants will have the opportunity to listen to, meet and speak with staff from various student service areas.  Orientation Leaders (OL’s) will guide participants through a campus tour and informative sessions.  In addition, guests are provided with publications aimed at helping parents learn about the transition process a student will undertake.  Lunch is provided during spring Rowdy Ties sessions.

Reservations for the spring Rowdy Ties Orientation are required and can be made through their student’s ASAP account. Space is limited and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a $35 fee for each guest attending a spring Rowdy Ties Orientation. All Rowdy Ties charges are added to the UTSA student’s tuition and fees bill.  Children age 3 and younger may enter free, however we advise guests to consider a child’s age due to the mature nature of the orientation sessions.

2009 Fall Rowdy Ties Orientation
The 1604 Campus Experience
This two day family orientation occurs during the months of June, July and August, every Tuesday and Wednesday.  During the two day program, family members and guests will have an orientation experience tailored specifically to them.  Please be advised that family members and new students will have information sessions and presentations held entirely separate from each other.

Rowdy Ties participants will have the opportunity to listen to, meet and speak with staff from various student service areas.  Rowdy Ties participants are assigned to their own Orientation Leader (OL), who will guide Rowdy Ties participants through a campus tour; lead sessions dealing with academic policies and offer student experience and tips throughout the program.  In addition, OL’s will facilitate sessions and dramatic presentations throughout the two days.  Social events will be offered in order to give guests the opportunity to network with others.  Participants are provided with publications aimed at helping parents learn about their student's transition process.  Lunch is provided each day for Rowdy Ties participants.  Children age 3 and younger may participate in the Rowdy Ties Orientation for free, however we advise guests to consider a child’s age due to the mature nature of the orientation schedule.
