Rowdy Ties is an orientation program for family members of incoming UTSA students. Parents, family members, and guests are encouraged to attend Orientation with their student as Rowdy Ties participants. The program gives family members an introduction to UTSA by focusing on academic affairs, student life, and Roadrunner spirit and traditions.

Rowdy Ties Fall Orientations are two days long and are offered once a week during June, July, and August. Rowdy Ties is a separate, parallel track for family members that runs concurrently with new student orientation.
Guests will have the opportunity to listen to, meet and speak with staff from various student service areas. Rowdy Ties participants are assigned to their own Orientation Leader (OL), who will guide Rowdy Ties participants through a campus tour, lead sessions dealing with academic policies, and share student perspectives and tips throughout the program. Additionally, OL's will facilitate sessions and dramatic presentations throughout the two days. Social events will be offered in order to give guests the opportunity to network with new UTSA families, staff, and students. Guests are provided with publications aimed at helping them learn about the transition process their students will undertake. Lunch is provided each day for Rowdy Ties participants. Children age 3 and younger are free. Reservations for all Rowdy Ties Orientations are required and can be made through the student's ASAP account. Space is limited and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. All Rowdy Ties charges are added to the student's UTSA tuition and fees bill.
