Computer Laboratory Systems Information Services Manager

The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Sciences at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for a Computer Laboratory Systems Information Services Manager position.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (1) research web server for the lab; (2) administer, update, and maintain all servers and computers in the lab; (3) manage the day-to-day operations of the computer lab and facilities; (4) participate in the development of scientific software and programs using high performance computing; (5) research, evaluate, implement, and maintain security measures for computer lab facilities; and (6) provide specialized support for specific research programs, systems and applications.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: (1) bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a technology related field; (2) two years of support experience in a computer related field; (3) strong scientific programming, software development, and computing skills; (4) ability to develop high level software, high performance algorithms and applications using Java, Open MPI, FORTRAN, Fortran, and Virtualization; and (5) programming, virtualization, web server design, Linux, and BASH.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (1) PhD in Physics, Biophysics, or Computer Science, or a closely related field; (2) strong background in computational/theoretical biophysics and molecular dynamics simulations; (3) experience on biophysical modeling (classical density functional theory, liquid theory, statistical mechanics) and MD simulations are a plus.

The appointment is initially for one year, renewable upon mutual agreement. Salary range is $34,380 - $56,724, and will be adjusted according to experience and productivity and is complemented by an additional comprehensive benefits package.
