Public Safety Events

UTSA Public Safety hosts several events throughout the year to engage with the Roadrunner community. We enjoy meeting our students, faculty and staff! Look for us at our own and other events each semester! We look forward to meeting you as we come across each other on campus.

Our staff and officers work to create quality events that not only provide education and resources, but also create a space where we can build connections, which is one of our key priorities. We encourage you to explore our events held throughout the year.

Fall Semester

National Night Out

National Night Out

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and camaraderie to make our campus community a safer, more caring place to learn. This event is free and open to the public. Join us every October for music, snow cones, door prizes, games and other activities.

Spring Semester

Stalking: Know it. Name it. Stop it.

Stalking: Know it. Name it. Stop it.

January is National Stalking Awareness Month, and we seek to raise awareness for our UTSA community. We hold an in-depth conversation on what stalking is and how to recognize it, what UTSA resources are available, and most importantly, how to keep yourself safe.

TxDot March Event

TxDOT’s March Event

In the week prior to spring break, we partner with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to kick off the safe spring campaign “Drive Sober. No Regrets.” This campaign aims to reduce drunk driving among college students and young adults during spring break. This event features interactive activities, such as virtual reality equipment that allow students to get an enhanced education and awareness of the dangers of drunk driving.

Keep Off the Grass

This event is held on April 20 each year to increase awareness of the effects and consequences of using marijuana. Pre-packaged brownies are also given out as a pun to the 4/20 event held nationwide.

Recurring Events

The following events happen several times a year.

Car Care Clinic

Car Care Clinic

We partner with Valvoline as they perform safety checks on student vehicles prior to the start of winter and summer breaks. They check fluid levels, tire pressure, windshield wipers and headlights. They also provide free pizza while students wait in their car.

Coffee with a Cop

Coffee with a Cop

Coffee with a Cop is aimed at building better relationships between members of our university police force and the campus community as we work together to improve overall safety at our multiple locations. This program brings together officers and our campus community members – over coffee – to discuss issues and learn more about each other.

Operation ID

Operation ID provides faculty, staff and students the opportunity to have personal property engraved with their state driver’s license or identification number. Engraving such property as laptops, iPads, phones or bicycles makes it easier to identify property if it was stolen.

We offer UTSA students the opportunity to learn self-defense techniques and safety tips to keep themselves safe when they are out in the community.
