UTSA Campus Recreation's Personal Training Program offers you certified personal trainers who can design a comprehensive exercise program specifically for you. By assessing your fitness goals, our trainers can create you a workout plan, teach you how to properly perform resistance and cardiovascular training exercises and keep you motivated and disciplined! Whether you are a beginner or an experienced exerciser or athlete, our trainers have the knowledge and skills to work with you to help you achieve your personal fitness goals.

How do I sign up for a personal trainer?

  1. In order to sign-up for personal training, you must fill out the Registration Form. You may fill this out online, print it out and bring it to the membership services desk at Campus Recreation, we also have blank forms available at the membership services desk as well.
  2. You will also need to fill out a Liability Form prior to signing up. If you have already completed a fitness assessment, this form does not need to be filled out or signed a second time.
  3. After completing these forms, you can choose your personal training package (see below) and pay at the membership services desk. After signing-up you will receive your personal training information packet, which includes the following:
    • Welcome letter
    • Nutrition Basics Packet
    • Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire
      • If you have already completed a fitness assessment, this form does not need to be filled out a second time.
      • When filling out this form, if you answer "YES" to any of the questions, a physician's referral form will be required.
    • Health History Form
    • Exercise History and Attitude Questionnaire (to be turned in at your first session)
  4. Within 3 business days of signing up for personal training, your personal trainer will contact you to set up your first session. If you have not yet completed a fitness assessment, your personal trainer will assist in scheduling your free fitness assessment prior to beginning the personal training program.
  5. Your first personal training session will be 1.5 hours in length. Each subsequent session will be 1 hour in length. If you purchase only 1 session, this session will be 1.5 hours in length.

What is Share-A-Trainer?

The Share-A-Trainer system allows you to sign-up for personal training with a friend and split the cost of the sessions. When you sign-up for this option, both individuals need to fill out the Registration Form and Liability Form, and make sure to fill in the name of the individual they will share the training with on the appropriate line of the Registration Form.

When you sign-up for this package, you must complete the training with the same person with whom you signed up originally. When you purchase a new personal training package, you may sign up with a new individual.

If you have purchased the share-a-trainer package and only one of the individuals on the package comes to a session, then this will still count as a session for both individuals.

Cancelling a personal training session

In order to cancel a personal training session, you need to contact your personal trainer directly. Appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance. Otherwise that session is forfeited. Please call your personal trainer to cancel or reschedule AND send an email to Vanessa Patterson, at vanessa.patterson@utsa.edu to indicate that you need to cancel or reschedule. This allows us to document the time of the cancellation so that you will not forfeit your session if proper notice is given.

Please contact your trainer if you will be more than 5 minutes late. Your trainer will only wait 15 minutes for late arrivals.

Refund policy

Refunds are only granted where there is a documented medical condition that precludes completion of the personal training program.  If a refund is warranted, it is pro-rated based upon the number of sessions completed up to that point, and will include a $15.00 processing fee.  Refunds of less than $15 will not be granted.

**Only Campus Recreation members are allowed to sign-up for personal training and fitness assessments.

Women on Weights

Enjoy training in a group environment with friends?  You can always try our Women on Weights (WOW) program that meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 5 - 6 pm and 7 - 8 pm at the downstairs cardio room.  This program allows women to meet with our personal trainers in a group environment.  Our Women on Weights trainers Ian Bradburn and Smiley Moreno are nationally certified. This program is absolutely free of charge for UTSA Campus Recreation members. Participants receive a nutrition packet on their first visit, and consistent participants also receive a t-shirt for participating at the end of the semester!

Body Fat Testing

UTSA Campus Recreation provides FREE body fat testing every Wednesday at 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm by our two nationally certified trainers Louie Guajardo and Travis Solarczyk. Body fat testing is located across from the Orange studio in front of the upstairs cardio room.
