Personal Training
Tips for a Good Session
- Complete an assessment first. You’ll have a baseline measurement of your strengths and weaknesses, and your trainer will be better able to use the information to design an appropriate program for you.
- Sign up (at least) two days in advance. Your trainer will then have time to review your assessment results and a lesser percentage of your first session will consist of information-gathering.
- Arrive on time and ready to exercise!
- Abide by recreation center policies. Even if you have an appointment, you must still carry a towel and have you U.T.S.A. I.D. card to gain access to the facility.
- Bring water, an open mind, and a willingness to communicate. If your trainer gives you an exercise you know you’ll never complete without him/her by your side, tell him that! The goal is to develop a program you’ll actually DO after the initial session.
- Schedule a follow-up appointment based on your needs. Beginners should schedule appointment 2 two-three weeks after the first session to tweak the program and make adaptations. Experienced exercisers can probably wait a couple of months (mid-semester) to revamp their programs.
