Rec Center Policies Info

UTSA Campus Recreation strives to conduct all activities in the most prudent manner possible. However, due to the inherent risk of injury in any activity, it is the responsibility of each participant to be aware there are some assumed risks involved in participation. All participants are strongly urged to have a yearly medical examination and to carry medical insurance coverage. UTSA and its staff are not responsible for injuries, including death.

Rules of the RockWall
  • No climbing or bouldering unless a RockWall Staff person is present.
  • All patrons must sign a "Release and Indemnification Agreement".
  • All patrons must check in with Outdoor Pursuits staff and present ID before climbing.
  • All patrons must pass a belay test before their fourth regular visit.
  • After passing a belay test you will be supervised as a "Beginner Belayer" for your next 5 visits to the wall.
  • Lead climbing will be limited and subject to additional certification
  • No un-roped climbing above the height of the top-most holds on the bouldering wall. No "topping out" on the bouldering wall.
  • All climbers must use UIAA approved equipment. Belays must be anchored.
  • Only rock climbing shoes or running/athletic shoes will be permitted in climbing area. No bare feet.
  • The climbing area is limited to 15 climbers and belayers in total. Others may observe from outside of the glass.
  • No radios, cell phones, food or drink allowed in the climbing area.
  • RockWall staff have the responsibility to ask patrons whose behavior is in violation of RockWall policies to leave the facility.
  • Privileges will be revoked if you attempt to climb while intoxicated.
  • Unsafe wall conditions should be reported to the RockWall staff immediately.
  • ...And a few points of Etiquette: All eyes should be on the lookout for safety concerns. Spot thy neighbor! Spotting is strongly recommended for all bouldering at the RockWall. Stand clear of climbers' fall and swing zones. The first boulderer off the ground has the 'right of way'. Do not attempt to pass another climber by climbing above them.

UTSA Card Policy

Members and current UTSA students are entitled to ONE free entry per semester (all summer equals one semester) where the Campus Recreation staff can verify identity. UTSA staff reserves the right to ask for additional photo ID at any time. After the one free-entry is used, the member is not allowed into the facility without their UTSA card.

Court Reservation System Racquetball courts are available through advance reservations and a daily challenge court system to allow all recreation users a better opportunity to utilize the courts.
  • Eligible participants may reserve racquetball courts by calling the Control Desk (210-458-7575) or by stopping by in person.
  • Reservations may be made same day or one day in advance.
  • Court reservations are limited to 1-hour per person per day and begin at the top of the hour.
  • If all courts are reserved for a specific time, a waiting list will be kept at the Control Desk.
  • Please check-in for your reserved time or players on the waiting list will be given priority.
  • Users unable to keep a reservation can help to better serve all users by calling 458-7575 to cancel.

Equipment Checkout
  • Users must present their UTSA ID Card at the Control Desk to check out equipment.
  • University-sponsored guests may check out equipment by presenting a government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, military ID, or passport).
  • Users are responsible for equipment they check out. An individual who fails to return checked out equipment or who returns damaged equipment must pay the cost of replacement value to replace the lost, stolen, or damaged equipment.
  • If a patron plans to transfer equipment to another member, both patrons must report to the Control Desk to record the switch.
  • Payment for lost, stolen, or damaged equipment may be made at the Control Desk. The user's ID number and information will be held until restitution is made.

Lost and Found items found will be taken to the Rec Center Control Desk. These items will be taken to the University Police office (MS 1.02.04) on the first day of each month.

Bulletin Boards Please obtain approval from the Administrative Secretary at the Rec Center Control Desk prior to posting on Rec Center bulletin boards.

Impromptu Tours are available for individual and groups during facility hours.
