Cultural Connections

Cultural Connections are receptions for the University Community as represented by the Provost, Faculty, Staff, and Student Leaders to welcome new and transfer students who make up the University of Texas at San Antonio diverse populations. These include our African-American and Black Students, Hispanic Students, GLBTQ Students, students with disAbilities,and Asian Pacific Islander Students.

There will be a short program at each reception that consists of a welcome, a short activity, a short comment from a member of the faculty or staff, and presentations from some students. The receptions will include light food and beverages and displays from student organizations, departments, and resources.

What is the goal of Cultural Connections?
For the University community to welcome all new and transfer students who are members of some our university's groups.

When are the receptions?
The receptions will be held on the following schedule:

Monday, August 20, 2007

  • Asian/Pacific Islander Students
  • University Center
  • 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • Hispanic Students
  • University Center
  • 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

  • Students with disAbilities
  • University Center
  • 10:00 a.m - 11:00 a.m.
  • GLBTQ Students
  • University Center
  • 1:00 p.m - 2:00 p.m.
  • African American and Black Students
  • University Center
  • 3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Who will be attending?
All the new students who have self identified as members of the group will be welcomed by the faculty, staff, and student leaders. Other students are also invited to attend.

I did not receive an invitation, but I am a new student and I belong in one of the groups and I want to attend the event. What should I do?
All new students who self-identified on their application were invited. If you would like to attend one of these receptions, please arrive at the date and time listed.

What should I wear to the event?
We ask that all new students wear casual attire.

Can I RSVP on-line?
Yes, via the online RSVP Form. - Coming June 15th !!

Is it necessary to RSVP for this event?
It is recommended that you RSVP.

Can I invite my family to this event?
We do encourage your family's involvement in your educational experience here at UTSA. However, at this time we cannot accommodate new students' families and friends at the Receptions.
