Reaffirmation and the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP)

Overview

The University of Texas at San Antonio is currently preparing for its Reaffirmation of Accreditation visit in 2010, which will be conducted by the Southern Association of College and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS/COC). One of the requirements of the reaffirmation process is that UTSA develop a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).

What is a Quality Enhancement Plan?

"The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a document developed by the institution that describes a course of action for institutional improvement crucial to enhancing educational quality that is directly related to student learning. The QEP is based upon a comprehensive analysis of the effectiveness of the institution in supporting student learning and accomplishing the mission of the institution" (Handbook of Reaffirmation of Accreditation, pg. 5). Student learning is defined broadly including cognitive, behavioral, and affective domains.

What are some QEP themes and examples that have been developed by other universities?

There are a wide range of appropriate themes for Quality Enhancement Plans. For more information, please view examples of QEPs from other institutions.

Why is the QEP Important to UTSA and to the Community?

The QEP will give UTSA the opportunity to develop a plan that can be implemented to improve student learning. This plan will be directly related to our strategic planning efforts. The QEP process will enable us to broadly involve the university community in generating ideas designed to increase student learning and success.

How Can I Find Out More About UTSA's Quality Enhancement Plan?

QEP Informational Meetings are being held this Spring 2008 to provide additional details regarding the QEP. In addition, detailed specifications of the QEP submission pre-proposal process and selection process are also being disseminated during the Spring of 2008.
