About Us

UTSA's Staff Council works to continually improve university operations and the well-being of the university's staff. The 35 members of the Staff Council serve as an advisory body, making recommendations to the president regarding the interests and concerns of staff. Members represent all the administrative areas of the university. Charged by the president and the Board of Regents of the University of Texas System, the Staff Council addresses matters to the university community, and in particular to staff members of UTSA, and is not intended to supplant existing procedures for addressing individual grievances.

Administratively, the Staff Council falls under the Vice President for Business Affairs.

The Staff Council has eight working committees:

The Communications Committee serves to publicize the work of the Staff Council, and raise staff awareness regarding Staff Council initiatives and programs.

The Elections Committee is charged with developing and executing the election process to select members of the Staff Council.

The Fundraising Committee plans and hosts the Staff Council’s Strikes for Scholarships event each spring. Proceeds go toward the Staff Council Scholarship.

Great Staff Appreciation - Ad Hoc

This committee plans and hosts the Great Staff Appreciation Event in the spring, which includes coordinating logistics for activities, refreshments, giveaways and speakers.

Health and Wellness

The Health and Wellness Committee identifies opportunities to promote and encourage healthy living among staff.

The Issues Committee encourages questions, concerns and feedback from UTSA’s staff regarding any aspect of working at UTSA. Any issues raised are discussed, researched, and considered for possible further action or recommendations to the university’s administration.

The Parking Committee shares feedback regarding parking issues to UTSA’s main Parking Committee.

The Scholarship Committee coordinates the Staff Council Scholarship Program, which offers financial support to UTSA staff pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees at the university.

Staff Appreciation

This committee coordinates the Staff Appreciation Award Program, which recognizes staff who go above and beyond to serve the university.
