HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

The Air Force ROTC High School Scholarship Program provides 3- and 4- year scholarships in three different types to high school seniors. The application process is the same for each type. On-line application deadline is Dec 1.

 

  • Type-1 - Pays full college tuition, most fees and $900 per year for books. Approximately 5 percent of our 4-year scholarship winners will be offered a Type-1 scholarship (mostly in technical fields).
  • Type 2 - Pays college tuition and most fees up to $15,000 and pays $900 per year for books. Approximately 20 percent of our 4-year scholarship winners will be offered a Type 2 scholarship (mostly in technical fields). If a student attends an institution where the tuition exceeds $15,000 per year, then he/she pays the difference. All 3-year scholarships are Type-2.
  • Type-7 - Pays full college tuition, fees and $900 per year for books, but the student MUST attend a college/university where the tuition is less than $9,000 per year, OR a public college/university in which the student qualifies for the in-state tuition rate.

 

Living Expenses

Upon activation, all scholarship cadets receive a nontaxable monthly allowance (stipend) during the academic year. Currently, the monthly stipend is $300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors, and $500 for seniors.

Other Details

All 4-year scholarships activate in the fall of your freshman year. All 30year scholarships activate in the fall of your sophomore year. All 3-year scholarship designees must complete AFROTC training during their freshman year in order to retain eligibility to activate their scholarships at the start of their sophomore year.

Travel Expenses

All high school scholarship winners are authorized travel pay from your home to your ROTC detachment. You will receive the pay upon activation of the scholarship.

IN-COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH 2-3 YEARS TO GRADUATE

The In-College Scholarship Program is open to college freshmen and sophomores in any major. Graduate students may also participate in the ROTC program and may be eligible for scholarship. The ICSP are competitive and based on individual merit, not financial need. The program awards Type-2 (tuition capped at $15,000 and $900 for books per year) scholarships. Freshmen nominees are awarded 3-year and sophomore nominees are awarded 2-year scholarships. Students may apply for additional entitlements for approved 5-year majors. Upon activation, all scholarship cadets receive a nontaxable monthly allowance (stipend) during the academic year. Currently, the monthly stipend is $300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors, and $500 for seniors.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply for the ICSP you must:

  • Be a United States citizen by the end of the projected term of activation
  • Pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test
  • Meet Air Force ROTC weight and body fat standards
  • Pass the Air Force ROTC Physical Fitness Test
  • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative college grade point average
  • Pass a physical examination and be certified as commission-qualified by the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board
  • Not already be a contracted scholarship recipient
  • Meet the age, moral, and other scholarship eligibility requirements

HISPANIC SERVING INSTITUTION SCHOLARSHIP
FOR UTSA COLLEGE STUDENTS WITH 2-3.5 YEARS TO GRADUATE

The Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Enhanced HSI scholarship programs are similar to the In-College Scholarship Program (see above) in most respects. One significant difference, however, is that they are operated on a fully qualified basis--those who meet the qualifications are awarded the scholarship and do not meet a scholarship selection board.

REGULAR HSI

Detachments may nominate an unlimited number of students for this scholarship. This program awards Type-2 (tuition capped at $15,000 per year plus $900 per year for books) scholarships. These 2,2.5, and 3-year scholarships activate during the same term as nomination. Upon activation, all scholarship cadets receive a nontaxable monthly allowance (stipend) during the academic year. Currently, the monthly stipend is $300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors, and $500 for seniors.

ENHANCED HSI

Detachments may award up to 15 of these scholarships per year. This program awards Type-2 scholarships, book allowances, and monthly stipends the same as the Regular HSI. This 3.5-year scholarship activates during the spring semester of the freshman year.

EXPRESS SCHOLARSHIPS
FOR SPECIFIC MAJORS WITH 2.5-3.5 YEARS TO GRADUATE

The Express Scholarship is designed to meet Air Force ROTC officer production requirements in specific fields and year groups. The scholarship length (# of years) is determined by the type of major.

This program awards Type-1 (full tuition, $900 per year for books) and Type-2 (tuition capped at $15,000 per year plus $900 per year for books) scholarships. In most cases, these scholarships can activate during the same term as nomination. Upon activation, all scholarship cadets receive a nontaxable monthly allowance (stipend) during the academic year. Currently, the monthly stipend is $300 for freshmen, $350 for sophomores, $450 for juniors, and $500 for seniors.

The Express Scholarship program is operated on a fully qualified basis - those who meet the qualifications are awarded the scholarship and do not meet a scholarship selection board.

To be eligible to apply for an Express Scholarship you must:

  • Be a United States citizen by the end of the projected term of activation

NURSING SCHOLARSHIPS
FOR NURSING MAJORS WITH 2.5 YEARS TO GRADUATE

Air Force ROTC has nursing categories for students wanting to become an Air Force nurse. This program awards Type-2 (tuition capped at $15,000 per year plus $900 per year for books) 2.5-year scholarships. In many cases, these scholarships can activate during the same term as nomination. Upon activation, all scholarship cadets receive a nontaxable monthly allowance (stipend) during the academic year. Currently, the monthly stipend is $300 for freshmen, $350 for soophomores, $450 for juniors, and $500 for seniors.

The Nursing Scholarship program is operated on a fully qualified basis - those who meet the qualifications are award the scholarship and do not meet a scholarship selection board.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply for an Express Scholarship you must:

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Pass the Air Force Officer Qualifying Test
  • Meet Air Force ROTC weight and body fat standards
  • Pass the Air Force Rotc Physical Fitness Test
  • Have at least a 2.5 cumulative college grade point average
  • Pass a physical examination and be certified as commission-qualified by the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board
  • Not already be a contracted scholarship recipient
  • Meet the age, moral, and other scholarship eligibility requirements
  • Be a sophomore or junior, majoring in Nursing at an NLN or CCNE accredited college or university
