ACADEMY FOR TEACHER EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Awarded each fall. Number and amount of awards vary

  • Must be in good academic standing with the University
  • Must be an active member or eligible to become a member of the Teacher Academy Learning Community (TALC) or the Teacher Academy Induction Learning Community (TAILC) program
  • Must be enrolled in student teaching when the award is received
  • Preference given to those who demonstrate the greatest financial need as determined by the FAFSA
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Completed application form
    • Deadline: Early Spring and late Fall; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

ALBAR PEÑA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amounts of awards vary

  • Must be an undergraduate pursuing certification as a bilingual education teacher, or a graduate student pursuing a master's degree in bicultural-bilingual studies with concentration in bilingual teacher education or bicultural studies
  • Must be member in good standing of the Bilingual Education Student Organization (BESO)
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • Undergraduates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5, and graduates must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must have language proficiency in Spanish and English
  • Preference given to students demonstrating participation in community and cultural activities and exhibiting leadership potential
  • Preference will be given to Hispanic students
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirement: Completed application form

BELINDA VILLARREAL-NELSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of awards vary

  • Must be interested in becoming an educator to diverse student populations in one of the following areas: English, mathematics, science, bilingual education or special education
  • Must be enrolled at UTSA as an undergraduate or as a post baccalaureate student seeking teacher certification at the undergraduate level
  • Must be enrolled full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours). This requirement is waived if the student receives the award during the student teaching semester or during last semester of required coursework
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • Special consideration will be given to applicants with extreme financial need or from traditionally underrepresented populations in their field of study
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Completed application form.
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

COEHD PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amounts of awards vary

  • Must be an incoming freshmen, undergraduate or graduate student with a declared major in the College of Education and Human Development
  • Must be enrolled on a full-time basis (Full-time enrollment status is waived if recipient is receiving the award during the last semester of coursework required for degree completion)
  • At the time of application, must have completed at least one semester at UTSA
  • Current undergraduate and graduate students must have at least a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; incoming freshmen must have a minimum SAT score of 1090 and/or a minimum ACT score of 24 and have a cumulative high school grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must submit a completed application and required essay by the application deadline date
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Application form and required essay

COEHD - THE USAA FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of awards varies

  • Must be classified as either an undergraduate student or as a post-baccalaureate student seeking certification at the undergraduate level
  • Must be a major in the COEHD and/or admitted into the Teacher Certification Program
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours
  • Must have completed at least 60 hours of which 24 hours must be work complete at UTSA by the first semester the award is disbursed
  • Must have either a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or minimum UTSA GPA of 3.0
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • Priority consideration will be given to single parents with children, COEHD majors, students seeking to become bilingual teachers and Mexican American Studies students.
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Application form and essay
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

CAROL FITZGERALD DODGE ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of awards varies

  • Must be enrolled at UTSA as an undergraduate or as a post bacculaureate student seeking teacher certification at the undergraduate level in one of the following areas: language arts, foreign languages, mathematics, and science
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time (minimum of 12 credit hours). This requirement can be waived if the student receives the award during the student teaching semester or if completing the last semester of required coursework.
  • At the time of application, must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. If selected, the GPA must be maintained to be eligible for the award.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • All things being equal, special consideration will be given to applicants with extreme financial need or from traditionally underrepresented populations in their field of study, and/or sigle parents.

DEWEY D. DAVIS, PH.D., FIRST PROFESSOR AT UTSA ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of award vary

  • Must be an undergraduate enrolled for a minimum of 12 hours (Full-time enrollment status is waived if recipient is receiving the award during the last semester of coursework required for degree completion)
  • Must be actively pursuing a certificate in secondary school science teaching
  • Must be student-teaching during the semester of the award
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Completed application form
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

DIANA LYNN TIDWELL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Awarded during the fall semester; number and amount of awards vary

  • Must be a graduate of a high school in Texas
  • Must be an undergraduate enrolled full time at UTSA
  • Must be actively pursuing an interdisciplinary studies degree with a concentration in generic special education
  • Must have completed at least 60 hours and have applied to the Teacher Certification Program
  • Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and be in good standing
  • Preference given to San Antonio's Sam Houston High School graduates
  • Preference given to those demonstrating financial need as determined by the FAFSA
  • Award to be given during the fall semester in which the recipient enrolls in the 24 hour, generic special education program
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Application, letter stating dedication to the teaching profession and commitment to students with disabilities
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

DR. ARCADIA LOPEZ ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Minimum award amount is $2000. Number of awards varies.

  • Must be enrolled at UTSA as an undergraduate or a post-baccalaureate student seeking teacher certification in bilingual education at the undergraduate level
  • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours
  • Must have completed at least 60 credit hours of which 24 hours must be coursework completed at UTSA by the first semester the award is disbursed (i.e. the 24 UTSA hours do not have to be completed until the start of the upcoming fall semester.)
  • At the time of application, student must meet the minimum cumulative GPA requirement for acceptance into the Student Teaching Program (currently 2.5)
  • Priority consideration will be given to students about to enter their final year of study
    • Application requirements: Application, a resume and required typewritten responses.
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

PYTHAGORAS ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR MATH TEACHERS
Award: Number and amount of award vary

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree to become a secondary math teacher or math-science teacher
  • Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate junior or senior at UTSA
  • Must be a resident of the state of Texas
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
  • Preference will be given to recipients who demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Completed application form
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

GUADALUPE HARBER SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of award vary

  • Must be an undergraduate pursuing a teacher certification in bilingual education
  • At the time of application, must have either a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or a minimum UTSA GPA of 2.5
  • Must be an active member in good standing in the BESO
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Application form, one letter of recommendation and an essay
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

HAROLD T. AND H. JOYCE COOK SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of awards vary, scholarship is renewable.

  • Must be an undergraduate actively seeking an interdisciplinary studies degree with certification at the elementary (EC-4 or 4-8) level
  • Must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • Must have applied for or been accepted into the COEHD teacher certification program by the semester the award is disbursed
  • Post baccalaureate students seeking certification are not eligible
  • Among equally qualified candidates, those seeking certification in 4-8th grades will be given priority
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Application, letter of recommendation from UTSA faculty member, and essay stating commitment to the teaching profession
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

JODIE W. MCARLEY SCHOLARSHIP FOR FUTURE COACHES OF FEMALE ATHLETES
Award: Number and amount of awards vary; scholarship is renewable

  • Must be an entering freshman, transfer or current undergraduate student who will be enrolled full-time during the semester in which the award is received
  • Must be pursuing or planning to pursue a degree in kinesiology with teacher certification in physical education with intent of becoming a coach of women's athletics
  • Must be a resident of Texas
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by Student Financial Aid
  • Must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Application, and a one-page, written goals statement that includes the information requested by the application form.
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

RODOLFO JACOBSON SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of award vary

  • Must be an undergraduate pursuing a teacher certification in bilingual education
  • At the time of application, must have either a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or a minimum UTSA GPA of 2.5
  • Must be an active member in good standing in the Bilingual Education Student Organization ( BESO)
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Application form, one letter of recommendation and an essay
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.

ONDERDONK FAMILY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Awarded each fall and spring semester; Number and amount of awards vary

  • Must be student-teaching during the semester of the award
  • Must be enrolled at UTSA, part time or full time, for at least two terms prior to the term of student teaching
  • Must submit verification of community volunteer work
  • Must submit a letter of commitment to teaching
  • Must submit a letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member
  • Recipients must write a letter of appreciation to the donor before funds are disbursed
    • Application requirements: Onderdonk Family Memorial Scholarship application, letter of commitment to teaching, document(s) verifying community service and a letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member
    • Deadline: Early March; for exact date, contact the COEHD coordinator of undergraduate student services or check the Web site.
