All scholarships awarded by the College of Liberal and Fine Arts require the recipient to:
- Be majoring in a discipline within the College of Liberal and Fine Arts and actively pursuing a degree
- Unless otherwise stated, be enrolled full time: 12 hours for undergraduate students and 9 hours for graduate students
- Unless otherwise stated, the application deadline for all scholarships is Feb. 15

DEAN'S CIRCLE SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $2,000 annually, awarded $1,000 in the fall and $1,000 in the spring if funds remain available. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester (completion of at least 12 semester credit hours with a minimum 3.0 GPA)
- Must have declared a major in any one of the disciplines in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
- Must have a minimum cumulative SAT score of 1100 or ACT score of 24
- Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
- Must enroll as a full-time undergraduate student ( minimum 12 semester credit hours)
- Must be an admitted student entering UTSA as a freshman (fewer than 15 semester hours of college credit)
- Application requirements: Completed scholarship application form, brief essay and a letter of recommendation from high school counselor or teacher. (Transfer students can provide a letter from a professor at a college or university previously attended)
COLFA PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS
Award: Multiple awards of available ranging between $1,000 and $3,000 each. Award amounts dependent upon the number of qualified applicants and funds available. Equal amounts awarded in the fall and in the spring. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester.
- Must be first-year graduate students (less than 18 graduate hours completed at the end of spring 2008 semester), who are enrolled in or have been accepted to a graduate degree program in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts at UTSA
- Must be and remain enrolled full-time (9 credit hours) in their selected COLFA graduate program during fall and spring
- Must have at least a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application and maintain that average while receiving the scholarship (applicants without a UTSA graduate grade point average must provide their undergraduate GPA)
- Must enroll as a full-time undergraduate student ( minimum 12 semester credit hours)
- Must be an admitted student entering UTSA as a freshman (fewer than 15 semester hours of college credit)
- Application requirements: The Presidential Scholarship in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts application, brief essay, and letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member (newly admitted graduate students can provide a letter from a faculty member at a college or university previously attended)
BEVERLY DUREN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Award: Number and amount of awards vary
- Must declare a major or minor in art or music (preference given to music majors/minors)
- Must be an entering freshman who has graduated from a high school in the Harlandale (Texas) Independent School District
- Must have a minimum 2.75 high school cumulative GPA
- Must have completed FAFSA on file
- Must exhibit leadership capabilities
- Application requirements: Check with the Department of Art History for application requirements; two letters of recommendation from high school faculty who are familiar with the applicant's academic and extracurricular achievements must be submitted
HACEMOS (HISPANIC ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNICATION EMPLOYEES OF SOUTHWESTERN BELL) SCHOLARSHIP
Award: $1,000 annually, awarded $500 in the fall and $500 in the spring. If matching funds are available from the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, the amount of the scholarship will be doubled. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester (completion of at least 12 semester credit hours with a minimum 2.5 GPA.)
- Must have declared a major in any discipline in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
- Must enroll in and complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours each semester
- Must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA
- Must have completed FAFSA on file
- The scholarship will be awarded to students with disadvantaged backgrounds and who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Disadvantaged background means either 1) that the applicant comes from a low-income family and is certified by his or her undergraduate institution as having exceptional financial need or 2) that the applicant comes from an environment that inhibited (but did not prevent) the person from obtaining the knowledge, skills, and ability to enroll in an undergraduate institution.
- Application requirements: Completed scholarship application form and brief essay about oneself and educational goals
JOHN S. JOCKUSCH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP IN THE LIBERAL ARTS
Award: Number of awards and amounts vary and are dependent upon the number of qualified applicants and availability of funds. However, it is estimated that individual awards will be no less than $1000.
- Must have a declared major in a liberal arts discipline within the UTSA College of Liberal and Fine Arts and be actively pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree. The COLFA Dean has identified current liberal arts undergraduate majors in the college as; American Studies, Anthropology, Communication, English, French, German, History, Humanities, Philosophy, Classical Studies, Geography, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. Art and Art History majors and Music majors are not eligible for this scholarship.
- Must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA during the year in which the award is received.
- Must be enrolled full time (12 credit hours for undergraduate students; 9 credit hours for graduate students) during the year in which the award is received.
- Application requirement: Completed John S. Jockusch Scholarship application form. Brief essay: "Describe why you have chosen your major and your plans after graduation from UTSA." Please attach the essay to the application with name and Banner ID stated at the top. A letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member. Transfer students and graduate program candidates can provide a letter from a faculty member at a college or university previously attended: first-time undergraduate students can provide a letter from a high school teacher.
RICHARD LEWIS SR. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP IN THE SOCIAL SCIENCES
Award: $1,000 annually, awarded $500 in the fall and $500 in the spring. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester (completion of at least 12 semester credit hours with a minimum 3.0 GPA)
- Must be an undergraduate social sciences major (American studies, anthropology, history, political science, psychology, sociology) who has completed at least 60 semester hours
- Must be enrolled full time (12 hours per semester) while holding the scholarship
- Must have minimum 3.0 GPA
- Must have demonstrated financial need as determined by the FAFSA
- Application requirement: Completed scholarship application form.
THE USAA FOUNDATION UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN COLFA
Award: Multiple awards of approximately $1,000 annually. Award amounts dependent upon the number of qualified applicants and funds available. Equal amounts awarded in the fall and in the spring. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester.
- Must have declared a major in any one of the disciplines in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
- Must be an undergraduate with at least 24 hours of college credit before the beginning of the fall semester
- Must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA
- Must enroll in and complete a minimum of 12 semester credit hours each semester
- Application requirements: Completed USAA Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship in COLFA application, brief essay and a letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member. (Transfer students can provide a letter from a professor at a college or university previously attended.)
THE USAA FOUNDATION GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP IN COLFA
Award: Multiple awards between $1,000 and $3,000 each. Award amounts depend upon the number of qualified applicants and funds available. Equal amounts awarded in the fall and in the spring. Spring award is based upon satisfactory performance in the fall semester.
- Must be graduate student, enrolled in or accepted to a graduate degree program in the in the College of Liberal and Fine Arts
- Must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at the time of application and maintain that average while receiving the scholarship (applicants without a UTSA graduate GPA must provide their undergraduate GPA
- Must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA
- Must enroll in and complete a minimum of 9 semester credit hours each semester
- Application requirements:Completed USAA Foundation Graduate Scholarship in COLFA application, brief essay and a letter of recommendation from a UTSA faculty member. (Transfer students can provide a letter from a professor at a college or university previously attended.)
