Program Description:

The overall mission of the MBRS Program at UTSA is to increase significantly the number of under-represented minorities conducting biomedical research.  To this end, a major goal of our MBRS-SCORE program is to develop the biomedical research capabilities of our faculty at UTSA. A second goal of our MBRS-SCORE program at UTSA is to integrate SCORE program activities with those of the RISE and MARC programs at UTSA to enhance student research training.

The SCORE program currently supports 22 research projects.  Sixteen (9 Biology, 4 Chemistry and 1 Mechanical Engineering, 1 Physics and Astronomy and 1 Earth & Environmental Science) by a grant from NIH for the period of 8/1/03 - 7/31/07 with a one year extension and 6 new research projects (3 Biology, 2 Chemistry and 1 Psychology) awarded on 9/1/07.  The cost is approximately 13.6 million dollars for four years.
