Upgrading your J-initiator software

In an effort to improve performance with Banner, we would like to upgrade the current version of JInitiator. JInitiator is a client application that resides on your computer, enabling you to connect to the Banner Server. We will be making this upgrade remotely.

We need you to ensure that the upgrade has completed successfully by having you change one setting.

* * If you access Banner from a Mac, you will not be affected. No changes are necessary for Mac users.* *

Instructions for PC users
We have included a screenshot (below) to illustrate the process. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Help Desk at 5538.

  1. Click the Start button on the lower left corner of your toolbar.
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Control Panel
  4. The Control Panel should be displayed.
  5. Double-click the JInitiator 1.3.1.25 icon.
  6. The JInitiator Control Panel will be displayed.
  7. You will now need to copy and paste the following code into the white box labeled 'Java Runtime Parameters' :
    mx64 X:+AggressiveHeap ss128k.

Helpful Tip: To do this, select the text above by highlighting it with your mouse. Put your cursor before the text then click and hold the left mouse button to highlight the text. * Note * Only highlight the text -- do not highlight any extra spaces before or after the text. While the text is highlighted, press <Ctrl><C> to copy the code. Then click inside the Java Runtime Parameters Box. Then press <Ctrl><V> to paste the code inside the box.
  8. Select Apply.
  9. Close the window.

That is all that is needed to complete the upgrade. If you have administrative rights to your PC, you can delete the "Banner_Upgrade_Instructions.txt" file from your desktop. Otherwise, simply leave it on the desktop.

If you need further assistance, please contact the Help Desk at 5538.
