Urban Education Institute

Charge

The Urban Education Institute will establish an educational incubator at UTSA where transdisciplinary research teams, school districts and community organizations partner to address equity and access across the P-20 educational spectrum. The institute will amplify the impact of collective efforts to raise San Antonio’s educational attainment and economic mobility levels through applied research, developing innovative models in San Antonio that can be used in urban settings across the nation.

    Recruit and hire institute staff
  • February - May 2019
    Present research findings to the public and education committees of the state legislature on student financial aid, dual credit, and full-day quality prekindergarten
  • July 2019
    Launch institute website, including data visualization tool illustrating San Antonio’s progress in raising educational achievement

  • Spring 2020
    Host inaugural Urban Education Institute conference, centered on housing insecurity and involuntary student mobility
