NEW ORLEANS, La. — The postseason honors continue to come in for the UTSA men's track & field program, as ninth-year head coach Aaron Fox was named the South Central Region Coach of the Year, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced on Monday. It is the second time in the last four seasons that Fox has earned the honor.

Fox recently collected Southland Conference Indoor Coach of the Year accolades for the sixth year in a row, which extended his record run of consecutive awards. He led the Roadrunners to a league-record-tying sixth straight championship.....

BJ Winston Named Roadrunner of the Month

Student Government Association

(March 2, 2011) – The UTSA Student Leadership Center announces Willyam “BJ” Winston as Roadrunner of the Month for February 2011. BJ was nominated by Lisa Alonzo, Director of Orientation & Family Programs.

BJ is from Austin, TX where he graduated from A.N. McCallum High School. He is currently a sophomore studying Electrical Engineering and Public Relations. With his degree, BJ would love to become a sports analyst or radio talk show host. He also wants to be someone that gives to the community and provides for his family and friends.

As an Orientation Leader and Freshman Seminar Peer Leader, BJ has been an excellent example of leadership at UTSA. BJ was selected by his peers for Orientation Leader of the Year for 2010 due to his high energy and enthusiasm. The freshman seminar students constantly shared how BJ not only encouraged them to attend events on campus, but also participate in the events. Lisa Alonzo shared that, “BJ deserves to be recognized for Roadrunner of the Month because he can and does serve as a powerful example to his fellow students. He is a hard worker, with a warm heart and a relentless will to succeed”. Additionally BJ has taken a leadership role through his participation in leadership opportunities. He has attended and actively participated in The Texas Conference for Women and the Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference.

When asked what leadership meant to him, BJ stated, “Leadership means providing an example in order to get something accomplished. It also means working without wanting recognition, but still gaining attention to be able to influence others”. BJ is able to be an example through his commitment to VOICES, Phi Sigma Pi, NSBE, Honors Alliance, Men of Honor, UMOJA and the Orientation Leader Association. The Roadrunner of the Month award is sponsored by the Student Leadership Center to recognize outstanding UTSA student leadership contributions.

Nominees must meet these criteria to be considered for the award:

Financial Aid Awareness Facebook Contest

Safe Spring Break
Safe Spring Break

Student Financial Aid and Enrollment Services recently held a Financial Aid Awareness Facebook Contest. February was Financial Aid Awareness Month, so what better way to raise student awareness than by giving away cool prizes? Four sets of questions were posted at various times of the month on our office Facebook page with the first student who correctly answered the questions winning a prize. Having a simple contest like this increased our Facebook views from about 8,000 views a week the month of January to over 25,000 views per week the month of February. Wow! It got our students involved and helped spread the word about important financial aid policies and procedures. Congratulations to all of our winners! Check out a couple of photos of two of our winners:
