UTSA Visitor's Guide

Submitted by Office of Admissions
We have for several years now, by way of our agreement with Campus Publishers, been receiving a publication called the Campus Visitor's Guide. This is an advertising paid publication that we use to provide a lot of useful information about UTSA to those who visit the campus.

At this time sales are underway for the upcoming edition of the Visitor Guide. We ask for any support departments can provide and to get the word out. The guide it is a good way to promote services to students and opportunities for students.

The attached Word doc and Media Kit give a good perspective.

UTSA's new marching band tuning up for halftime

by Wendy Rigby / KENS 5

SAN ANTONIO -- You can’t have a successful inaugural football seasons without an inaugural marching band. This week, The University of Texas at San Antonio’s band is hitting the field to get ready for their big debut in September.

They call themselves SOSA for “Spirit of San Antonio.” The brand new UTSA marching band is 200 strong and getting ready for upcoming halftime action.

“What we’re doing here is a once in a lifetime opportunity to start traditions and to start this band program from the bottom up,” said Drum Major Alana Urbano, who served as drum major for two years at South San West Campus High School in San Antonio. “Everything’s been turning out so well.”

Ron Ellis is leading the newly-minted group, a group that’s already full of school spirit from the top down.

“The programs out here, the high school directors and the high school programs, are so strong that everybody’s just really unbelievably talented and the training is great,” commented Ellis, UTSA Athletic Bands Director. “So they’re just doing it like they’ve been doing it their whole lives. It’s great.”

No music on the field yet. Just drills. But Ellis promises all kinds of music, from movie themes to rock, country and mariachi.

Band members said they hope to be a crowd pleaser.

“It’s more about getting the entire community involved and it brings in culture to the city, all that spirit,”commented Annie Moras, Assistant Drum Major. “I think that’s just what UTSA and San Antonio was missing.”

The band has been doing three-a-day practices this week, two outside and one indoors working on the music.

“The energy’s unbelievable,” Ellis added. “It’s just really great to be around right now. It’s a great time to be a Roadrunner.”

The debut of the UTSA marching band is September 3, 2011, when the Roadrunners football team takes on Northeastern State at the Alamodome.

UTSA Strives To Reach Tier One Status

More Than 30,000 Students On UTSA's Campus This Fall
Steve Spriester, KSAT 12 News Anchor

POSTED: Wednesday, August 24, 2011

SAN ANTONIO -- Dr. Ricardo Romo knew the challenges he faced when he became UTSA President 12 years ago. "We were a commuter school," Romo said.

On Wednesday, more than 30,000 students stepped foot on a UTSA campus. It's been quite the transformation. "When I got here 70 percent of our students were from Bexar County, and today, 70 percent of our students are not from Bexar County. It's an amazing flip," Romo said.

The flip can also be seen on campus and in future plans that include more dorms, buildings, parking and football.

Romo is banking on all of these plans to take UTSA to tier one status, on par with the state's academic elites, UT-Austin, Rice and Texas A&M.....
