UTSA Appreciates. That I know for sure. We gather in teams large and small. We share in professional development opportunities like the Student Affairs Conference and Four C’s sessions. We have a common language through True Colors. We believe in excellence for our university and for our students. I firmly believe that these are the tools that keep collaboration a priority and the intentionality in our work.

When we take the time to appreciate the skills that our colleagues bring to the table, we all win.

Our Random Acts of Appreciation Week highlighted these thoughts beautifully. Orange is the new appreciation! Programming like this shows our community that the little things matter. Our division was filled with thoughts of encouragement and thanks - through social media and in person. As an example, our Spotlight section highlights the thoughts from your Associate Vice Presidents. When we take time to appreciate others, we are telling our students and colleagues that everything and everyone makes a difference. Who did you thank this week?

I am grateful for your efforts. I want you to know that our collective effort is what makes things happen for our students. Don’t ever let up. Our division has seen its share of transition over the last year. I am honored to have served with you on this path. I am honored to have led, coached and mentored along the way. It’s always a great day when I get a chance to say thank you.

I learned that Frank Sinatra once said “Orange is the happiest color.” As I witness the growth of Roadrunner spirit, I have to say I agree. Orange is bright and vibrant.

Let orange be in your thoughts as we move into Homecoming Week festivities. We welcome back our alumni and put a new twist on some of our most esteemed traditions.

Let orange be in your thoughts for Family Weekend in November. We host our families and provide opportunities for them to share UTSA memories with their student.

And finally, let orange be in your thoughts during your next meeting, event or shift to help you remember that you are appreciated. Remember that while there will always be challenges ahead, our even greater success is on the horizon.

Best wishes,

Sam
