Kudos to Ann Margaret Trujillo

I wanted to let you know how well UTSA was represented at the SWACUHO RA Conference. Ann Margaret Trujillo, Associate Director, Inclusion and Community Engagement Center, responded to a call for programs by submitting and presenting two programs to a group that included over 400 RAs from across Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mexico. Our Conference would not have been as successful without colleagues like Ann Margaret-THANK YOU!!

Kudos to Kaelie Gonzales, Roadrunner of the Month, October, 2013

The UTSA Student Leadership Center announces Kaelie Gonzales as Roadrunner of the Month for October 2013. Kaelie was nominated by Jared Gonzales, a fellow UTSA student.

Kaelie is from Austin, TX where she graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School. She is currently a senior studying Business Management. After completing her degree, Kaelie is planning an 11 month mission trip overseas. When she returns she plans to seek out a management position with the government and pursue a master’s degree. Eventually she would like to start her own business in alternative energy.

As a Community Assistant for UTSA Housing and Residence Life, Kaelie has been an excellent example of leadership at UTSA. Upholding the values and expectations set forth by the department are Kaelie's main priorities, never forgetting that everything that she does always comes back to the students who live on campus.

According to Jared Gonzales:
“Kaelie is constantly going out of her way to fulfill the needs of others and will personally ensure that others receive recognition for their own quality work. She is a person who is humble about her own personal achievements and finds great joy in serving her friends and coworkers in any way possible”.

Additionally Kaelie has served through leadership roles as the Special Projects Coordinator for student organization VOICES and President for the Latin Dance Society. Kaelie helped lead the planning and execution of Extreme Makeover UTSA this past fall, a service program that involved hundreds of students volunteering to engage in service projects to improve campus.

When asked what leadership meant to her, Kaelie stated, “Leaders are those that have left a legacy amongst others, those who invest in others. Leadership is the act of creating NEW leaders.”

The Roadrunner of the Month award is sponsored by the Student Leadership Center to recognize outstanding UTSA student leadership contributions. Nominees must meet these criteria to be considered for the award:

  • Must be a full-time UTSA undergraduate or graduate student
  • Must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher at the time of nomination
  • Must have demonstrated excellence in leadership above and beyond typical expectations
  • Nominations should be for actions that positively impact the UTSA community

Kudos to UTSA Students, Faculty, Staff & Alumni Food Bank Volunteers

UTSA Homecoming 2013 included a Homecoming service project at the San Antonio Food Bank. The San Antonio Food Bank provides food and grocery products to more than 500 partner agencies in 16 counties throughout Southwest Texas. The mission of the SAFB is to fight hunger in Southwest Texas through food distribution, programs, education and advocacy.

More than 60 UTSA students, faculty, staff and alumni teamed up at the local food bank. The initial goal was to sort 14,250 pounds of food, but Roadrunners surpassed the goal and sorted 25,705 pounds. Read the rest of the UTSA Today story here.

For more information on service activities, visit the UTSA Inclusion and Community Engagement Center website or go to the Volunteer Services/VOICES office in H-E-B University Center Room 1.216 on the Main Campus, or email volunteer@utsa.edu or call 210-458-7291.
