New Office of Scholar Development and Post-Graduate Advising Open on the UTSA Main Campus

Dream Plan Succeed

University College is pleased to announce the opening of the new UTSA Office of Scholar Development and Post-Graduate Advising. This new office, which will cater specifically to Terry Scholars, Archer Fellows and students interested in attending graduate school, hosted a kick-off event on February 1st on the MH walkway.

“The mission of the office is to challenge students to dream big and assist them in making those dreams attainable,” said Ann Eisenberg, director of the Office of Scholar Development and Post-Graduate Advising. “Specifically, the office will serve the Terry Scholars Program, coordinate the Archer Fellowship Program, encourage students to participate in programs on and off campus that help them develop as scholars, and provide students with advising on getting into graduate school (for Master’s and Ph.D. degrees).”

UTSA currently disburses scholarships, supported by the Houston-based Terry Foundation, to assist high school students who have demonstrated exemplary leadership and academic excellence to facilitate their college attendance. In addition, the Office will assist academically motivated students in obtaining summer research internships and other prestigious opportunities, including the UT-System Bill Archer Fellowship program.

Although the University presently offers students support with obtaining acceptance into post-graduate programs in the health professions and law, Eisenberg, who has taught a Graduate School Workshop through the Honors College for over 10 years now, saw the need to create an office designed to assist students with additional opportunities, leading to the creation of this new office. Along with the Health Professions Office and the Institute for Law and Public Affairs, which provide post-graduate health professions and pre-law advising, respectively, the Office of Scholar Development and Post-Graduate Advising will be housed in the University College.

The new office’s slogan “Dream, Plan, Succeed,” reflects its commitment to helping UTSA students realize their dreams to excel not only in their undergraduate sojourn at the University, but beyond.

“I am delighted that Dr. Eisenberg has agreed to serve as the Faculty Director of the Office of Scholar Development and Post-Graduate Advising," said Lawrence Williams, dean of the University College. "As UTSA attracts more academically prepared students, many of whom are first generation, it is important to have a first-rate office that advises our students of advanced study opportunities beyond the baccalaureate degree and provides support and guidance on a pathway through their undergraduate studies that will develop them into exceptional scholars so that they are prepared to seek graduate or other advanced credentials.”

Katie Storey will assist as coordinator of Special Programs for this office.
