About South Texas Technology Management

Mission:

Our mission is to provide comprehensive and integrated technology development services to UTSA and its staff, using the most effective protection and commercialization strategies to stimulate and capitalize on UTSA’s intellectual property portfolio, thereby achieving maximum economic and humanitarian value for the Institution, its staff, and the community.

Vision:

STTM strives to provide a comprehensive host of services for technologies developed by faculty and staff. STTM is dedicated to the protection of these technologies in order to further research and development, protect the interests of the faculty and the university, and provide economic and humanitarian value to the community. By facilitating the development of faculty conceived products, tSTTM is fostering and encouraging the research of new and cutting edge technologies at UTSA.

Our office is organized and staffed to handle effectively the multiple demands of a full-service office dedicated to stimulating growth in the quality and size of the intellectual property portfolio of the University, fully capitalize on the financial potential of opportunities through an energetic, entrepreneurial spirit and high level of performance, and accelerate the movement of technologies to the marketplace. We engage in value creation activities such as marketing, licensing, new company start-ups, financial valuations, business alliances, internal and external investment in technology development, while dealing with highly specialized contract issues regarding sponsored research, collaborations, Bayh-Dole compliance, patent prosecution, materials transfer, conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and internal controls, plus invention-stimulating efforts in faculty education and other awareness-creating activities. As the central point of entry for all intellectual property-related matters of the University, STTM understands the fiduciary responsibility it has to the faculty, staff, and the community as the primary steward of a growing University intellectual property estate.
