Research on deep learning involves motivating students to acquire a solid knowledge base by completing relevant assignments outside of class — for which they are accountable — that help them learn new knowledge by connecting it to what they already know. Eric Mazur calls a similar technology-based approach the "flipped classroom."
In the face-to-face portion of classes, students then work in pairs or small groups to master concepts, clear up misconceptions, receive constructive feedback, and experience the repetition needed for learning.
This interactive workshop will model group-based activities that emphasize what we know about human learning.
