Biology

Instructor:             Matthew Spottswood
Department           Biology

Comment:

Dr. Spottswood is a great teacher. He is very dedicated to making sure his students learn about gentics and applying the knowledge they learn. He makes learning interesting. He spends extra time outside of class to go over concepts when students need the help. Even though I'm only one of his almost 300 students, I want to thank him for all his hard work. His wonderful example has led me to consider becoming a teacher. I wish more teachers were like him.

Management

Instructor     Eugene Stone-Romero
Department  Management

Comment:

Dr. Stone-Romero is one of the toughest teachers I have ever had. He has a sincere concern that PhD students be able to give presentations about their research and answer questions about methodology from memory. He cares that we actually learn about methodology and can defend the work we do. He expects hard work and great products from his students. Having his class and knowing him have made me a better researcher. THANKS.

Marketing

Instructor :     Richard Utecht
Department     Marketing

Comment:

Rick helped us focus on really understanding our discipline. His efforts at getting us to create and own taxonomy of our discipline made us think critically about what the academic discipline really means to us. This has helped me in both teaching and research. Rick also taught us active learning techniques that made it much easier for first-time teachers to manage a classroom. Rick is the genuine article - he cares about his students, pushes us to excel, and guides/coaches us through the process.

Modern Languages

Instructor:       Mimi W. Yu
Department     Modern Languages

Comment:

Yu-sensei has to be the best language teacher I've ever had. The one thing she does most that none of my other teachers ever did was make us repeat words and/or phrases constantly. Repeating things definitely helps imprint it in your mind longer than just being told the word and expected to do it all on your own. She also has us get into small groups to practice scenarios with one another, aiding us in the ability to speak the language more fluently. Her good sense of humor also keeps things fun and interesting. There's never a truly dull moment in class. I wish I could have her as a professor my whole college career. Thank you, Yu-sensei, for being such a wonderful teacher and kind person!

Instructor:       Wenjuan Guo
Department     Modern Languages

Comment:

Professor Guo makes this class very enjoyable, and she really shows her desire for everyone to understand her teaching. She goes out of her way to make sure we as her students enjoy and retain what she teaches. She also has just made me fall in love with the subject and the culture of China. I look forward to this class every time, even if it is a test day--that's how much fun she makes the class. Thanks!!
