Do the shuttle: The no-hassle route to class for UTSA students
(Oct. 30, 2003)--There is a record number of students at UTSA this year.
So, for fewer parking hassles -- the Office of Parking and Transportation
offers these guidelines to UTSA students, faculty, staff and visitors.
SHUTTLE AND PARKING DETAILS
Park and ride: Shuttles from lots 10, 11 and 12 to Biosciences, HSS buildings,
1604 Campus
Shuttle service is available to parking lots 10, 11 and 12 at the 1604 Campus
from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Shuttles pick up passengers every
15 minutes.
Five hundred two parking spaces are available in lot 10, located on George
Brackenridge Avenue, west of University Oaks Apartments. Passengers can use
the lot 11 bus stop or University Oaks Phase III bus stop.
Parking lot 11 is located on UTSA Boulevard, west of University Oaks Apartments
(with "lots" of historically under-utilized parking spaces). University
Oaks Phase III and lot 11 shuttles stop at the Biosciences Building.
Parking lot 12, also historically under-utilized, is on West Campus of the
1604 Campus, south of the Sculpture and Ceramics Studio. The lot 12 shuttle
stops at Chisholm Hall and the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.
Apartment shuttle: From apartment complexes to the 1604 Campus
The apartment shuttle service to the UTSA 1604 Campus is available for UTSA
students who live in several nearby apartment complexes. The service runs
from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, except on UTSA holidays, with
passenger pick-up approximately every 45 minutes.
The service is provided for the Highlands, Campus Side, Blue Bonnet Hills,
Las Colinas, Chase Hill, Alpin Park and Maverick Creek apartment complexes
with a stop on the UTSA 1604 Campus in lot 3, north of the Business Building.
The route begins at 7:30 a.m. in front of the Highlands apartments with pick-up
points in front of the Campus Side apartments and at the VIA bus stops at
the other complexes.
Saturday shopping shuttle: From the 1604 Campus to shopping areas off
I-10
The Saturday shopping shuttle service for UTSA students runs from noon to
4 p.m.
Shopping shuttle stops are:
- Chisholm Hall, adjacent to the housing office
- University Oaks Apartments, Phase III shuttle stop
- Wal-Mart garden center
- Huebner Oaks Shopping Center, next to Border's book store
- H-E-B, De Zavala store left entrance
The last shopping shuttle pick-up on campus is 3 p.m. and the last pick-up
at H-E-B is at approximately 3:40 p.m.
Do the shuttle: Between the 1604 and Downtown campuses
Through an agreement with VIA Metropolitan Transit, UTSA students, faculty
and staff can utilize VIA express route 94 at no charge with a valid UTSACard.
The shuttle goes between the 1604 and Downtown campuses from 7 a.m to 10 p.m.,
Monday through Friday.
The route 94 shuttle stops at the Downtown Campus Buena Vista Street Building
and at 1604 Campus parking lot 3, located north of the Business Building.
Parking for students and visitors at the Downtown Campus
Parking at the Downtown Campus for students with UTSA parking permits is
available under the freeway, south of Durango Boulevard. Visitors can park
in the same location under the freeway, but must request a visitor's pass
from a security officer at the entrance gates. Parking for students with UTSA
permits is also available in the Durango Loop parking lot which offers parking
convenient to the campus.
Parking in the Downtown Campus garage is open to students with UTSA parking
permits on levels B2 and B3 at night from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Monday-Friday.
Level B1 remains reserved at all times for garage administration permit holders.
UTSA faculty/staff "A" permit-holders are cautioned to pay particular
attention to parking space markings on level B2 in the Downtown Campus garage
because some spaces soon will be marked as reserved.
Note: There is no longer a shuttle from the freeway and Durango Loop parking
lots to campus.
