Portions of Buena Vista Street Building closing this weekend
(Aug. 20, 2003)--Portions of the Buena Vista Street Building at the UTSA Downtown Campus will be closed this weekend to begin the repair process on a beam above the theater on the east end of the first floor.
According to George Morales, UTSA director of facilities services, "UTSA is working with the contractor who is completing recommended safety measures and repairs to the structure. Due to the nature of the work, the repairs should occur this weekend."

This is the first step being taken by SpawGlass Construction, the contractor that built the structure, to complete the necessary repairs. As a safety measure, a shoring system is being modified until the remaining repairs are completed. The UT System Office of Facilities Planning and Construction is coordinating and overseeing the work and plans to complete all repairs and open the theater as soon as possible.
"It is our hope that the UT System can rectify the situation in the near future, but the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors who use the building is the priority," added Morales.
