UTSA Athletics names associate baseball coach

(Sept. 29, 2003)--After serving three seasons as an assistant coach for the Roadrunner baseball team, Jason Marshall was named associate head coach of the UTSA baseball team Monday by Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Lynn Hickey.

A four-year letterman at Texas A&M University, Marshall will serve as recruiting coordinator and defensive coach for the Roadrunners.

"Coach Marshall has made a major impact on recruiting, teaching and developing top-quality student-athletes and works hard at making UTSA a quality baseball program," said head baseball coach Sherman Corbett.

The Abilene native was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 13th round of the 1992 amateur baseball draft, playing four seasons with the Royals organization as a utility player before finishing up his playing career in 1995 with Wichita of the Texas League (Double-A).

Following his playing career, Marshall entered the coaching ranks as a student assistant coach at Texas A&M from 1996-98 before joining the summer staff of the Cotuit Kettleers of the prestigious Cape Cod League in 1998. After his summer in Cape Cod, Marshall joined the staff at McMurry University as the assistant in charge of recruiting and defense.

During his stint at McMurry, Marshall's squad made postseason play two out of three years, claiming an American Southwest Conference league and tournament championship in 1998. In 2001 he attended the American Baseball Coaches' Association Convention in Nashville, Tenn., as an invited speaker on the subject of infield play.
