UTSA to commemorate 9/11 in ceremony, concert

(Sept. 10, 2003)--The UTSA Office of Student Leadership and Cultural Programs and the Office of International Programs encourage members of the UTSA community to wear red, white and blue and attend a 9/11 observance, "Strength in Unity," at 12:15 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Sombrilla Plaza, 1604 Campus.

An additional event, "Memorial Concert for the Victims of the 9/11 Tragedy" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. in the Arts Building Recital Hall, 1604 Campus. Free and open to the public, the concert features five works written in response to the events of Sept. 11, 2001.

Pictured is the World Trade Center site, New York City, in a satellite image photographed at 11:43 a.m. EDT, Sept. 12, 2001. The image shows dust and smoke at the location where the 1,350-foot twin towers stood. Since all airplanes were grounded over the U.S. after the attack, the IKONOS satellite was the only commercial high-resolution camera that could take an overhead image at the time.
