UTSA College of Public Policy names development official

(Sept. 11, 2003)--Lauren Walthour, former director of foundation and corporate relations for the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, recently joined UTSA as associate director for development in the College of Public Policy at the Downtown Campus.

"UTSA has a great future and the Downtown Campus is a jewel," said Walthour. "I look forward to bringing new prosperity to this college and to the university."

A 1997 alumna, she graduated from UTSA with a master's degree in public administration.

Walthour began her career as a volunteer, serving on a policy committee overseeing Community Development Block Grants in her hometown, Norman, Okla. Committee work included a project to build sidewalks in low-income neighborhoods.

Her accomplishments include raising more than $37 million for the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, owning a company and writing several books.

Walthour is president of the Rotary Club of the Dominion and board secretary for San Antonio Gateway Corridor, Inc. She is a board member and anniversary committee member of the Plaza Club, which provides speakers on important topics of the day for seminars that are open to the public.
