Governor to make economic development announcement Oct. 23 at UTSA

(Oct. 22, 2003)--Governor Rick Perry will come to the UTSA Downtown Campus Thursday, Oct. 23, to announce the creation of regional economic development offices that will be established throughout Texas.

Perry will make the announcement at 2:15 p.m. in the Durango Building Southwest Room, 501 West Durango Boulevard.

"UTSA is pleased that the governor chose our Downtown Campus to announce the opening of the state regional economic development office in San Antonio," said UTSA President Ricardo Romo.

"UTSA's role as one of the primary economic engines in San Antonio with an estimated impact of over $770 million per year, and as home to the Institute of Economic Development, makes UTSA an appropriate venue for this announcement. UTSA is proud to support Governor Perry's activities to promote economic development by not only educating the leaders of tomorrow, but also supporting business growth today."

Last month, Perry announced the creation of new economic development offices around the state that will work with local leaders and companies of all sizes to create jobs and business opportunities. Economic development responsibilities on the state level are part of the governor's Economic Development and Tourism Division.
