
UTSA observes the season with Best Fest, Dia de los Muertos
(Oct. 29, 2003)--UTSA student organizations present "Best Fest: Nightmare on Rowdy Street" from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, Oct. 31 at Sombrilla Plaza on the 1604 Campus.
As part of the celebration, the Office of Student Affairs will sponsor a Halloween costume contest at 11:30 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for the three best costumes.

Best Fest, a long-running UTSA tradition, celebrates the Halloween season
and involves more than 55 registered student organizations who sponsor fun,
games and entertainment and sell food and beverages. Proceeds from refreshment
sales help support the student organizations.

In observance of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a traditional day to honor friends and family members who have passed away, the Institute of Texan Cultures features a special altar in the lower gallery through Nov. 23. The altar was created by four families and is dedicated to victims of domestic violence. Another altar was created in memory of Linda C. Meredith, a horsewoman.
