As an opportunity to involve parents and families as an essential part of the academic and social success of UTSA students, the Family Celebration weekend introduces the extended Tri-Campus family to life at UTSA.
The weekend kicks off Friday, Oct. 24, with campus tours and a tailgate party preceding a 7 p.m. volleyball match against conference foe Southeastern Louisiana in the UTSA Convocation Center.
On Saturday, families will enjoy an outdoor brunch at the Sombrilla Plaza on the 1604 Campus, followed by tours of the Chisholm Hall and University Oaks student housing facilities.
Following the tours, there will be a family association meeting, along with fun and games for the children in attendance. For those not attending the family association meeting, there will be an information session conducted by the Office of Student Affairs, including a retrospective of student activities.
At 2 p.m., participants can attend at the Convocation Center a volleyball match with Nicholls State University. During the match, academic and campus life presentations, and open houses will be held across the 1604 Campus.
At 4 p.m., the University Center will host a Family Celebration reception and slide show of the weekend highlights. Following the reception, participants are invited to the Arts Building Recital Hall for a 7:30 p.m. performance by the UTSA Concert Choir and the Children's Chorus of San Antonio.
UTSA's Institute of Texas Cultures will be open downtown from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for participants interested in viewing several special exhibits, including "Videotopia" and "A Tejano Son of Texas."
The Family Celebration cost is $5 per person, free for children under eight and for UTSA students with a valid student I.D. Cost for attending the brunch or reception is an additional $5 per person, and admission to the concert is $10 per person or $6 for students, senior citizens and military personnel. All other Family Celebration activities are free. T-shirts are available at $5 per shirt.
